The Dearly Departed

Here we catalog all who have played for the mighty Beijing Barbarians. Our tribe has only recently grasped the nuances of the written language -- previously we communicated through a combination of cave paintings, slide tackles, and beer burps -- and we are working to add the hundreds of former players from around the globe.

If you or someone you played with is not listed, please feel free to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. and include whatever information you know of the player (name, position, years played, current contact info) and a photo.

Adam Guli

Nationality: USA
Position: Forward
Years Played: 2005-????

adamAdam works for Haworth as the Senior Sales Manager and joined the Barbars in 2005. A relatively newcomer to football, he has quickly fallen in love with the game. In a short time he has dramatically improved his skill levels and hopes to continue to grow as a player. He is also the new Captain of the B team and is always eagerly looking forward to the start of the 11-a-side league seasons.

Alex Dorangeville

Nationality:
Position: Forward
Years Played:

alex-d-1The Thai Kwun Do Kid. A tremendous forward who brought a lot of pace and quick passing to the club and was a key player in the Barbarians' steady rise to the top of the IFFC field.

Alex Graham

Nationality: England
Position: Defender
Years Played:

alex-GrahamAlex, a scouser of a scouse, was at the heart of the defence that went the whole season unbeaten. Vital to the team from the beginning, not only in his loud defensive displays, but also in his recruiting abilities, Alex goes down as one of the most important players in Barbar history. Many current club members are playing only because Alex made them join. After leaving Beijing, Alex was last seen in South Korea, causing a ruckus with anything in blue.

Andrew Sadler

Nationality: England
Position: Midfielder
Years Played:

andrew-sadlerLongtime B Team coach and part time mesmerist; Andrew can be found in the offices of most blue chip companies, spouting his Zen wisdom on communications, presentation skills and random hat wearing. Andrew was a founding member of the Barbarians who, as the inaugural B Team Manager,  tirelessly worked to raise the fledgling B Team from a side project into part of the Club's core. Always willing to strap up his dodgy ankle and kick a ball around; often does one Zizouic move then limps off again. Specialty football skills include the Toe Punt and the Self-Inflicted Niggling Injury.

Loved to play football like no other and had the speed and skill to make sure he reached his potential. Bruce was also one of the Barbarians that helped Xinhua PR Newswire win the MasterCard Community Cup in 2005! Has since left for Canada, poor sod.

Christoph Keusch

Nationality: Germany
Position: Midfielder
Years Played: 2006-????

christoph-keuschChris joined the team in the summer of 2006, slept his way up, and soon become the proud captain of the most barbarian crowd in town. As team captain he oversees the "Three S Strategy", the Barbarians' proprietary mix of ingredients that fuel their success as a club. No one knows the exact forumla, but it is rumored that the three components are Sushi, Sambuca, and Splendid Victories. Plays anywhere but goalkeeper, and mostly can be found in the center circle watching the ball and opponents pass by.

Christopher Lau

Nationality: Hong Kong
Position: Defender
Years Played:

christopher-lauChristopher actually played for the Beijing Rangers in their first match ever. He then heard the Beijing Barbarians were the Chelsea of Beijing, owned by a dodgy bloke with an accent (Keith) and run by his yes-man (Lee). Lured by the bright lights and an undisclosed amount of RMB, Christopher transferred over to the Barbarians, and the rest is history. A regular in defence in the Barbarians' unbeaten season, putting in stints at right back, left back, centre back and goalkeeper. The highlight of his season was the game-saving the penalty against Snickers (awarded after Vincent decided he was playing basketball).

A bit of a nomad, Christopher works in the fields of media and social work, but when he is not busy ending poverty, hugging trees, and bringing about world peace, he is always up for a kick about. Currently splits his time between Canada, England, and Hong Kong.

Claudius Abegg

Nationality: Netherlands
Position: Defender
Years Played: 2005-????

claudius-abeggClaudius joined the Barbarians in autumn 2005 and has been a regular player since. He defends without technique or speed, but makes up for it with will and endurance. A difficult guy to get past, as he has a knack for anticipat where both ball and opponent are going to go. Claudius is the Jaap Stam of the Barbarians, although this might be giving too much credit to Jaap. Always in for drinks after the match, or before the match, in between...or just anytime for that matter.

Daisuke Shikasho

Nationality: Japan
Position: Midfielder
Years Played: 2005-????

daisukeDaisuke became a Barbarian in October 2005. Having enjoyed playing football for decades, and still remembering the days in his twenties when he could dart around the pitch with endless energy, Daisuke admits that's not quite how he plays now. He still has the skills to dazzle the sharpest of defences, but no longer the speed to outrun them once he gets past them. Already a true Barbarian at heart, Daisuke hopes to beef up his physical presence in order to look the part!

Dan Schmeeckle

Position: Striker
Nationality: American
Years played: 2013 - 2015

Dan Schmeeckle

Dary Stone

Nationality: USA
Position: Midfielder
Years Played:

daryCould be the find of the season. A good engine, pace and a very good passer of the ball. When asked to do a man-to-man job he's had so-called star opposition players in his pocket. Young man with the combined temperament of Roy Keane and Tupac Shakur. Likely to kick off at any time! Keeps Phil amused!

Dave Carini

Nationality: USA
Position: Defender
Years Played: 2004-2013

dave-carini-2Fullback who plays with his heart on his sleeve! Defensive work horse that gets up and down the wings on a regular occasion. Like any Yank likes to get good yardage to his clearances. In addition to holding the club record for fastest chugging of a half yard of beer, he also organizes the A team's 5s squad. He was raised among the orange-blooded hill tribes of Tennessee. In his spare time, he works at his recently started technology market research firm, Maverick China Research.

Dirk Kraetzer

Nationality: Canada
Position: Defender
Years Played:

dirk-kraetzerOne of the original Barbarians and longtime Club Treasurer, Dirk is definitely the team's "old man". With minimal movement he manages to marshal the team's back four with a commanding voice that deceives opponents into thinking he is actually marking them. When asked about the Club's financial status, he rattles off Swiss bank account numbers without giving concrete figures. Currently under investigation by Interpol.

Dylan Swann

Nationality:
Position: Goalkeeper
Years Played:

dylan-1Keeper with a safe pair of hands. Tremendous shot stopper using every body part. Outstanding in both 1st team 11s and 5s asides too. Neville Southall would be proud if he had Dylan as his son.

Eric Livdahl

Nationality: USA
Position: Midfielder
Years Played:

eric-livdahlStill young and full of energy, this guy can run for hours. When not at high school (yes, high school!), he can be seen at the heart of the Barbs midfield. Plays with the experience of someone twice his own age. Has proved a real asset to the Barbar cause, and as if that wasn't enough, Eric is not afraid to shoot and get some great goals in a very Lampard-esque kind of way.

After a successful stint with the Barbs, Eric graduated school and was last season enjoying life as he travelled Europe. Good luck!

Frederic Derbaudrenghien

Nationality: Belgium
Position: Midfielder
Years Played:

fred-derbaudrenghienA basketball player as a teenager, but when he realized he was never going to become tall enough to make it, Fred decided to switch to football. Fred is a solid contributor in the 11s games but truly shines on the smaller pitches of 5-a-side, where he also organizes one of the Barbarian teams. Also one of the key architects of the Club website!

Gary Wells

Nationality: England
Position: Defender
Years Played:

gary-wellsAlthough he wasn't with the Club for all that long, Gary's experience in playing and managing at an amateur level were a much-needed addition to the Club in its early years. He provided leadership and guidance to the Club's young leaders both on and off the pitch, and his name will always live on as a true Barbarian. Has since left for pastures sandy.

Gerard Marcet

Nationality: Spain
Position: Midfielder
Years Played:

gerard-marcetGerard renounced a successful and lucrative career with a "major" Primera team back in Spain after receiving from Captain Keith asking for help in spreading some light on the rather gloomy league the Barbarians were playing in. Solid in defence and accidentally creative in attack, he defines himself as a rather shy pal that needs a strict lady to put things in his life back in order.

Unfortunately for the Barbarians, the call from the Primera eventually turned out to be too much to turn down....

Glen Royce

Nationality: USA
Position: Defender
Years Played:

barbarians-logo-5A defensive player that frustrates wingers and strikers with his pace and engine. Makes defending look like a fierce tango dance in which he leads!

Henry Macauley

Nationality:
Position: Forward
Years Played:

henryAnother newcomer this season adding to the spoils up front. Tall, dark and handsome - the Sexy FC boys are going to like him. But they won't like him when he's got the ball at his feet. Very quick striker that sits on the line ready for an opportunity.

Isaac Pete Junior

Nationality:
Position: Midfielder
Years Played:

isaac-2Pacey attacker who is effective both on the left and right. Has already proven his worth with some very strong performances this year. French, so likely to go on strike at some point.

Jacob Harding

Nationality: USA
Position: Defender
Years Played:

jake-hardingOur Social Secretary is an aspiring urban motorcross specialist who loves the feeling of the G-force at 20 kph, stretching the skin on his face into a clown smile; the ground under his feet, as he launches off the speed bump; and the thrill of victory when he can outrun a grandma on her Rascal. Actually, he's an American and is new to the game of football, but he enjoys playing and having a beer. He also digs baseball, softball, scuba, darts, and travel.

James Clancy

Nationality: Ireland
Position: Forward
Years Played:

barbarians-logo-5Short on stature but big on personality, James was a main organizer for the B team's social life. Always ready to tell a story, and always ready to be the story, this Irish rocket will be sorely missed by all. James is now back in his beloved Ireland, trying not to drink up all the profits of his new pub.

Jared Zimmer

Nationality: USA
Position: Forward
Years Played:

jaredAnother member of the title-winning side, Jared was a true character. Loved his women as much as he loved his football, and possessed a throw-in that was more like a corner kick, as he could place it all the way to the penalty spot with scary accuracy. Has since returned home to finish his university life (at the University of Florida, unfortunately), but may be back again some time in the near future. Let's hope to see him in the Barbar shirt again sometime soon.

Jean-Jacques Morris

Nationality: France
Position: Midfielder
Years Played:

jj-morrisJJ enjoys playing on the Barbarians for the "Fs": football, fun, friendship. The first two are very important, but the third is by far the best. He believes that enjoying having a few beers and laughs with teammates is what makes the Barbs so special. As for JJ on the pitch, he prefers an attacking role. Loves to loft crosses in from the right side and watch the striker head them home. Currently a better passer than scorer, but working to improve all elements of his game.

Jeff Gillie

Jemal Oun

Nationality: Libya
Position: Midfielder
Years Played:

jemalOne of the newer members to the A Team, and much like his good friend Milla, Jemal has the skills to dazzle many, including himself. Always willing to flick and back heel, Jemal loves nothing more than the open space of a full-size pitch. A regular to the team's 5-a-side squad, Jemal is fast becoming an integral part of the Barbarians.

Jerry Geng

Nationality: China
Position: Midfielder
Years Played: 2003-????

jerry-gengA member of the club from its earliest days, he won many games and awards with the A Team back in the days when there wasn't a B Team and it was all just "the team". A midfielder, he likes controlling the ball all over the pitch, and setting up his strikers for goals, though occasionally he likes to a goal or two of his own. Outside of football, his other main interest is offroad adventuring. If you don't see him on the pitch on a given weekend, he's probably in the desert with his treasured Jeep Cherokee. And finally, a BIG CONGRATULATIONS are in order, as Jerry just got married!!!

Jerry Stewart

Nationality: England
Position: Defender
Years Played: 2003-????

barbarians-logo-5The FIRST person ever to lead the Barbarians out. Jerry had been around Beijingfor several years and was involved in Beijing's football scene for most of those. Had played with the Club's founding Chairman, Lee Green, for a year on another squad before they left and, with the help of ClubFootball, formed the original Barbarians. Eventually Jerry was shipped off to some sunny Asian destination, never to be heard of again. If only he could see us now....

But Jimmy has challenged is still going strong, with a passion for football in his heart. He can also been seen working for TNT Productions, Inc, but he dreams of having his own company and becoming a rich and successful boss one day.

Jochanan Wallach

Nationality: Israel
Position: Barbarians A Team Assistant Manager and Defender

Lee Green

Nationality: England
Position: Wherever
Years Played: 2003-????

lee-greenClub founder, first Club Chairman and Mr. Utility, Lee puts Club before personal gain like no other. He has but four loves in life: the Mrs., the Barbarians, darts, and the Villa. Currently to be seen in his free time moonlighting as the Senior Manager of Editorial Services for Xinhua PR Newswire. This season he’ll be hoping for a bit of a Martin O’Neill effect, as he looks to take the team into the top flight.

Miltos Denediotis

Nationality: Greece

Raised in Piraeus near the ground of Olympiacos FC, Miltos has travelled the globe and worked in many countries over the years. Prior to come to Beijing, he lived in Kuala Lumpur for seven years, where he played football regularly with the Malaysian Grasshoppers FC. Likes wine and classic cars. Works for the Vienna-based company Vamed on the development of hospital projects.

Mo Yasin

Nationality: England
Position: Former A Team Captain and Foward/Midfielder
Years Played:

mo-1

Red devil of a striker who plays equally well "in the hole" behind the front pair. He might support Man Utd but he's no southern fairy... Just like Carlos Tevez he shows all of the qualities of a true Mancunian, with a work rate that's second to none and an inspirational figure as A team captain!

Mad about mangos!

Nick Ott

Nationality: Australia
Position: Forward
Years Played:

barbarians-logo-5Nick is another of our famous young guns from the International School of Beijing and was a leader in our front line the Barbarians' first season in IFFC's Division 2. Nick led the team in scoring that season, beating off competition of people twice his age. Always on the run, and always on target, Nick was a tough one to replace. Can't exactly remember where he went, but we know he is no longer in China…poor fool!

steveSocial Secretary Steve has been one of the longer serving Barbarians, and he has proved a most worthy subject. "Big Nuts," as he is known in these 'ere parts, finds life at the amateur level quite rewarding, in part because he's approximately two feet taller and two feet wider than everyone else on the pitch. Moves with a surprising grace for his size, going around people easier than Johan Cruyff. Doesn't play too often due to work commitments, but we don't hold that against him.
