MarwAID 2 Raises Over 25,000 RMB!

Published on June 2, 2014

Yesterday afternoon the Barbarians' 7-a-side charity tournament, "MarwAID 2: Save the Marwan," was held at Si De Park. The event proved a success, as over 25,000 RMB was raised and some excellent football was displayed.

A big thank you to all who participated and donated money at the event, as well as to those who donated their time and energy to help organize it.

We would also like to thank all of our fellow IFFC Teams for joining us in this effort and donating so generously. Forbidden City and Vikings in particular went above and beyond in their support.

A few individual thanks go out as well:

  • To Luis, for your generous prize donations, for sorting out the electricity, and for chopping the fruit;
  • To Chris, for driving the booze around;
  • To Kevin, for organizing the tournament;
  • To John and Colin, for running the raffles;
  • To Aziz, Tarek, Craig, Carlos and Alastair, for working the bar;
  • To Max and his mum for their delicious food;
    And to everyone else we forgot to mention who helped out.

Next event to follow soon!

MarwAID 2 Fundraiser 7s Tournament Announced

Published on May 28, 2014

For those who haven't heard yet: Barbarian Marwan broke his leg two weeks ago in an IFFC league football game. We are looking to raise over 70,000 RMB for his medical costs. We need your help and would appreciate donations. Last Saturday we held the first fundraiser, MarwAID 1, at Frank's Place and collected close to 9,000 RMB.

In the spirit of the IFFC and with their support, we will hold MarwAID 2, aka "Save the Marwan," this Saturday, May 31, from 2-6pm at Si De Park in Beijing. We are calling on our fellow IFFC teams and others to join us in this 7-a-side charity football tournament. Each team is asked to submit a donation for participation (suggested minimum 1,000 RMB).

We understand some teams are missing players, and therefore we are also welcoming any individual players to come down and play in one of the "IFFC All-Star Teams". We expect to have 1-2 such teams composed of players from clubs who can't bring a full side. Everyone is welcome!

To help raise funds, we will be selling drinks and snacks, holding a raffle, and putting on various activities (penalty challenge, crossbar challenge, etc.). Family and friends are of course more than welcome, and the tournament will be followed by further evening festivities at Frank's Place, right around the corner. So come out and join us for a day football, fun, and fundraising!

If you would like to participate in the tournament or simply make a donation now, please contact This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. Thanks for your support, and we look forward to seeing you on Saturday!

MarwAID 1 Raises Over 8,000 RMB

Published on May 26, 2014

Last night was MarwAID 1, the first in a series of fundraisers to raise money to cover Barbarian Marwan's football-induced medical expenses. The event was held at club sponsor Frank's Place, and altogether we collected almost 9,000 RMB.

A big thanks to Craig for selling all the overpriced raffle tickets, to Big Kev for twisting arms at the darts tournament, and to everybody who contributed on the night.

While this is a good start, it's not enough. The next fundraising event will be held this weekend (details to follow).

Barbarian Marwan Breaks Leg - Help Needed!

Published on May 22, 2014

One of the Barbarians, Marwan Aleid, severely broke his right leg last Sunday in the IFFC league game against Forbidden City FC (5-4 Barbars victory). Due to the severity of the injury he had to undergo emergency surgery to set the leg straight by inserting a metal pin. While the operation was a success and he is slowly starting to recover, he remains in the hospital with a high fever.

For those of you who don't know Marwan, he is a young Syrian lad (17 years old) whose family are all over in Syria. He came to Beijing to escape the recent unrest in his home country and is still in high school here.

Unfortunately he does not have insurance, and therefore the Barbarian family is organizing a series of fundraising events to help cover his medical costs, which are well in excess of 50,000 RMB. We need your help and would appreciate donations.

If you can make a donation, please contact This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. Check back here or on the Beijing Barbarians Facebook Page for updates on the upcoming fundraising events.

The Barbarians 5s A Team concluded a successful campaign in Division 7, finishing the last matchday with two wins, which put them in second place for the season, just one point behind the division champions.

Special thanks to all players, including defensive stalwarts Craig, Dust, and academy-player Adam. Adulation for midfield powerhouses Alastair, Hector, and crafty Ramon. Last, bows of gratidude for the goals and stellar overall effort from strikers Colin and Tarek (who's on Egypt's U17 international team, for those who didn't know). Golden Glove to Will, who manned the posts valiantly throughout the season.

The team looks forward to kicking off the summer season in Division 6. Though missing a handful of regulars during the early weeks of the summer season, they will be looking to capitalize on their strong depth of numbers to push for contention in next season's promotion battle.
