2013 2014 fantasy premier league

It's nearly the start of a new season, and this year the Barbars will be holding a Fantasy Football League competition within the club. Here are the details so far:

  • Entrance fee is 100 RMB. It's fine if you don't want to put any money in and just want to play for fun, but only paying participants will be eligible for prize money and the Beijing Barbarians Fantasy Football Trophy, which of course is priceless.
  • Prize money will be divided between the top three finishers.
  • We'll be using the Premier League's online site for our league. For details on how to sign up, contact Kev or Stu.

The more people we get the bigger the pot, so sign up today!

Training will be held every Tuesday night from 9:00-10:30pm at Chaoyang Park (through gate #7, which is on the east side of the park, right next to the Fourth Ring Road). All are welcome -- current Barbars and new recruits alike. So why not come for a run out, boost those energy levels, prepare for the new season and basically have a good time!

Barbarians June 2013 Committee Meeting Agenda

Published on May 30, 2013

With the 2012-2013 season winding down, we'll be holding our next committee meeting in the next couple of weeks. We've got plenty of things to discuss:

  • Choosing Managers and Assistant Managers for both the As and Bs: If you're interested in one of the positions, please let Chairman John know. We'd like to have our new managers in place to ensure that we're ready for next season.
  • Summer Activities: So far the list includes the organized 5s tournament, the Robert Gonnella 7s tournament, and training.
  • Sponsorship: Plenty to discuss here
  • Recruitment: Summer is always when the most veterans leave and new players arrive!
  • General Housekeeping: Including finances, new kit, communications, new initiatives, socials, club policies, and everything else.

Give some thought to these issues and let your voice be heard! We haven't chosen a final date or time; check your email for updates.

Football Training Tip: Shooting the Ball

This post was brought to you by Foxy Bingo.

20131019-beijing-barbarians-vs-vikings-13When you're part of a football team (like Arsenal), training together is the best way to make sure you all perform well on the pitch. There are many different ways of training and one of the most important techniques to learn is how to shoot well. The chance to score a goal can be very hard to come by in a game of football, so when you do find yourself in the right situation, you have to make sure you can take the most out of this opportunity. When you're shooting from a distance, it's important that you put enough power behind the ball while ensuring the accuracy of your aim. It's best if you kick with the top portion of your shoes, the place where the laces are. Make sure the ball comes into contact with this area as the flat surface of the field can sometimes make the ball propel differently. You can watch some videos on YouTube to see that even professional players make mistakes when they kick the ball because of the field's grassy surface.
