The IFFC finally kicks off this weekend, with action in the IFFC Cup first and second rounds. The Bs are up against old rivals Azzurri on Saturday, while the As have a first round bye. On Sunday the As will face the victors of the first round clash between Celtics Gold and Summer Palace. The Bs, if they get through, will face a very tough second round match against IFFC old boys Fortuna.
It's been a long old summer, although a minor event known as the Olympics did come into town and liven things up for a bit. As always, the Barbarians management teams have been working hard behind the scenes to ensure everything and everyone is raring to go by the time we kick off.
Speaking of the management team, we have had a couple of changes to the Club leadership over the summer:
- Phil Heggli has accepted the invitation to take up the role of Vice-Chairman. Phil and I will work very closely together in future to ensure that the Club can be all it can be. Priority number one will be to build a stronger relationship between our two squads.
- Barbarians' old boy Matt Arnold has been appointed A Team Social Secretary. He will be working closely with Phil and the B Team Social Secretary organize some killer events and build the Club's spirit.
There are several other positions still available on both squads; click on the Barbarians' Organisation Chart pic to the right to learn more. If you are interested in any of them, please let me know!
Lastly, just want to give a BIG UP to A team Manager Richard Collett and his darling wife as they welcome their first child to this world. Rumour has it that at the hospital Richard was shown a red card for foul language -- an incident he denies, of course.
