Match report vs Thumb Korea

The game started well with Barbarians taking the upperhand.  Phil Heggli recently back from a tour of Bangladesh was drafted into defence.  It was his quick freekick from deep in our own half that put Claudius Hildebrand through on goal for the opener.  1-0.  Andrew Evans, marauding on the left wing, provided the second with a clean clinical strike.   2-0.  The first of our tough tackling anchor men to score was Samy, charging through the defence and beating the keeper to the ball.  He finished with a delicate chip then clattered with the keeper.  3-0.  Shorlty before half time, re-organization at the back put an end to Thumb Korea’s wing play.  The half time talk was focused on defending well and keeping the clean sheet.

In the second half, we were solid at the back, though failed to retain the ball well in midfield and attack.  Too much running with the ball and searching for the killer pass meant that more often than not we lost possession and had only a handful of clear chances on goal.  We need to get this right for the upcoming fixtures.  Albert Boada stepped up to put in the final goal.  Spotting the keeper off his line Albert chipped, his shot dipping just below the crossbar.  Good vision and great execution.  4-0.  Albert’s domination of midfield both aerially and on the deck plus his first goal in a Barbarians’ shirt means that he gets this week’s well deserved man of the match award.

Altogether a convincing victory that now puts on a +2 goal difference.  We now face a string of tough opposition including second and third in the league and our close rivals K-Y fc.  If we secure results in these games, we will claw our way slowly up the table.
