The Barbarians All-Stars continued their strong finish with two more victories in Week 7. After a shaky start to the season, we took 15 points in our final six matches to finish fifth in the final table.
2008 was a successful year for the Barbarians in the 5s league. In the final season of 2007, we finished third in Division 3. Thus we were able to move up a division even as the ClubFootball league expanded from seven to eight divisions.
At this point, CF league is very popular and attracts many strong players. Strong teams that were not around at when the league started have worked their way to the top — Afrika Reds in our own division, for example. Just holding one’s position season after season is an accomplishment, and we should be proud what we’ve done. It’s only going to get harder in spring 2009, when two former Division 1 champions, Spitfire BFC (early spring 2008 champions) and Napolimania (late autumn 2008 champions), have been relegated to Division 2.
