Match report vs Thumb Korea
March 25th, 2008 — Match Reports
The game started well with Barbarians taking the upperhand. Phil Heggli recently back from a tour of Bangladesh was drafted into defence. It was his quick freekick from deep in our own half that put Claudius Hildebrand through on goal for the opener. 1-0. Andrew Evans, marauding on the left wing, provided the second with a clean clinical strike. 2-0. The first of our tough tackling anchor men to score was Samy, charging through the defence and beating the keeper to the ball. He finished with a delicate chip then clattered with the keeper. 3-0. Shorlty before half time, re-organization at the back put an end to Thumb Korea’s wing play. The half time talk was focused on defending well and keeping the clean sheet.

20080316 Match Report vs Azzurri
March 19th, 2008 — Match Reports
An interesting encounter that saw us pegged against our closest rivals this season. They now sit 4 points ahead of us and still have the Beijing Rockers game which will give them a 6-0 victory. We won’t meet them again this season, but we can still beat them in the table. Our current position puts us above Celtics and Renda with Azzuri reachable and Italy 10 points clear. Our objective this season should be first to retain our current position, then to beat Azzuri on the table, our super objective is to finish above Italy in the top four. If we all pull together and play our best, I believe these objectives are attainable.
The game started well with the teams evenly matched for the most part. A defensive error lead to the first opportunity but nobody could stop the pace of the Azzuri forward who rounded a number of defenders before finishing from an impossible angle.
20080316 : The new website online !
March 16th, 2008 — Uncategorized
To keep up with the ever more ambitious plans of the Beijing Barbarians football Club, it seemed necessary to renew the website, freshen up the outlook and add up-to-date tools.
The main new features are the BLOG, which will be used to publish match reports and the Wiki, which will provide a variety of information (for external as well as for internal use).
Important is that many more people contribute to the maintenance of this website. The Barbarians have grow out to a real community and are about much more than playing an 11-a-side match every week.
Players and others will have the ability to upload pictures, write articles, publish events, … And for the future, there will be a page where players have to sign in and confirm their presence for next match.
The most basic contribution, to start with, would be for all of you to now and then write a little comment in our Blog!

Last weekend saw the annual Barbs derby, and it seems that each year the two teams get closer and closer together in terms of quality. However, I am happy to see that the game was played in the best possible spirit and those that went to the Japanese after had a great time.
There have been several changes in how the Club is being run….

Having a football team in Beijing is much more than playing the ’soccer’ game.
This blog will be used for publishing many stories and receiving a lot of comments, but in the first place we will ask the team captains/managers to write down here the match reports.
