The Barbarians B Team Goes Dragon Hunting - Match Report 02.10.11

Barbarians B vs. ISB Dragons

Score:Barbarians (5) – ISB Dragons (1)

The second match of the season for the Barbarians B squad away against the ISB Dragons. After an unfortunate start to the season, we were looking to get back in the race for the top spot in the league.

The Barbarians got off to a great start with a fantastic personal effort from defender turned striker Chris Sharpe scoring early. After dispossessing the defender Chris was able slip past the keeper and make a clean finish. See all the details after the break...

The rest of the second half was a bit of a stalemate with a few (5 or 6) squandered by the eventual man of the match Chris Sharpe. All this was made worse by an astonashing own goal from our captain of the day Greg Williams headed in to our own net via an opposition corner.

Not long after, a handball on the goal line by a Dragons defender set up Nathan Dilliway for a goal with a penalty shot. Nathan’s shot was on target, but the Dragon’s goal keeper made 2 consecutive saves both from the penalty shot, as well as the shot from the deflection. From then on, the first half went forward without incident.

The second half started out much better for the Barbarians with the Barb’s controlling the ball for the large majority of the time. Not long after the second half whistle the Barbarians scored their second with simple header from our own Tasmanian devil, Chris Sharpe. We continued to put the pressure on throughout the half and all but finished the game off with a beautiful chipped shot from striker Alex Derangeville.

The Barbs continued to batter the youngsters from ISB with an onslaught of attacks, finally securing our fourth from an UNBELIEVABLE volley from the A Team goal keeper and B Team midfielder Carlos Muniz from 25 yards out.

The final goal of the game came from a scrappy finish by Chris Sharpe, who finally got his deserved hat-trick for the match. The match finished not long after with the score 5 for the Barbarians – 1 for the Dragons. At the end of the day, the Barbarians scored a total of six goals, including the idiotic own goal.
