There comes a time in every great club when a key decision needs to be made. As Chairman, I want to get everyone's thoughts on this immediately, as it could alter our existence in a number of ways. The topic of discussion for this post is "Training vs 5-a-side".
Over the last couple of weeks we've had very enjoyable training sessions down at Xiaowuji on a Wednesday evening. The weather has been nice and at the beginning of the season numbers are always high. And there has been no 5-a-side. This week, however, ClubFootball is kicking off a new round of 5s which sees both the As and Bs compete...on different days.
So, the question is, do we want to have both training and 5s midweek? If yes, what day would be best for training? If no, do we drop training or do we kick 5s into touch? What are the benefits of regular training and how does that compare to the benefits of our club playing 5-a-side?What would happen if training became compulsory and we kept 5s alive through a combination of A and Bs?
These are all important questions and it's something the management have discussed time and time again. I now open the floor to you all to share your thoughts on the idea. Training obviously has its benefits but are the benefits great enough to sacrifice 5s and are you guys committed enough to want to train when it's minus 10 degrees outside? Or simply put, do you just prefer playing 5s?
I look forward to your comments.
Cheers,
the Chairman

The A team face their biggest battle of the season this weekend as they take on the not so mighty Vikings. The A's have looked a much stronger outfit this second half season, however, the Vikings are much improved too. Despite the improvement though, the Vikings are still firmly slotted in the relegation zone and defeat to our A's will almost surely guarantee their departure from top flight football. Victory for the A's will mean that only a natural disaster of titanic proportions will see them relegated from the Premier League. The A's currently lie 6 points clear of the Vikings, and a win on Sunday will make it a whopping 9 points! For a team that doesn't have 9 points after 15 games, the Vikings will surely find it too much to make up that ground in the final handful of games.
It's been a tough old season for the Premier League newcomers. The first season is always the toughest. During the break a new manager was appointed to help take some of the workload as so far Richard has done a great job in getting everyone to pull together to help ensure we don't have two teams in the same division next season. It's going to be a fun finish, and the A's will want to finish on a high, so even if we do win on Sunday, we gotta keep pushing forward and make sure that when next season starts, no one will relish the chance of coming up against the mighty barbaric Barbarians A.
Last weekend saw the annual Barbs derby, and it seems that each year the two teams get closer and closer together in terms of quality. However, I am happy to see that the game was played in the best possible spirit and those that went to the Japanese restaurant after had a great time.
There have been several changes in how the Club is being run....
The Beijing Barbarians play in 5-a-side and 11-a-side leagues. In each there is an A and a B team. An overview of the members can be found here!
